It’s in You, Just Believe!

I suppose at this hour of the morning I should be fast asleep and lost somewhere in dreamland, but instead here I am channeling my latest thoughts and emotions into a blog for you. This past week was hell on wheels and the worst possible week that you could ever imagine—by Thursday I was warding off everyone and sticking to myself. The problem, so I thought, was people, them and their stupidity and their meanness and everything else that deals with people—but by Friday I realized the problem was me. What was wrong with me you ask? Absolutely nothing aside from the fact that I was/am exhausted in every avenue and was beginning to lose hope in a dream that I had and started implementing.

You see, sometimes in life things don’t always happen the way that we wish for them to or even when we wish them to happen. As a result, we find ourselves more than a little down and frustrated because our efforts just seem to be in vain with nothing to show. And at those times, we are just so willing and ready to give up and throw our hands up and say forget it, I didn’t want it anyway when we know in our hearts that we wanted that one thing more than anything in the world. But you see, tonight I realized something….it is at those times when we are on the verge of giving up and throwing in the towel that something is about to come to fruition. Tis true we don’t see it at that time and at that moment, but if you’re willing to just hang in there and tough it out, you’ll see that what you’ve been waiting on will come to pass.

You see, I recently, as of a few months ago started this company, which if you’re interested you can message me for more information. Well one of the projects that I’m involved in with this company wasn’t going the way I wanted and it was becoming a major disappointment to the point that I honestly thought about just throwing it all away. But what I realized through a very dear friend of mine and naturally because I’m inspired by things I see or read, through a movie is that when the going gets tough you can’t get going…no you gotta stay there and stick it out. I was too busy looking at the present situation and allowing it to get me down that I couldn’t focus on anything else. So what’d I do? I took some time away from people (since they were seemingly my frustration) and spent some time with me and my thoughts and I asked myself a series of questions, the main of which being if I threw this company away would I regret it down the road and by letting it go what would that solve. My answer to the first part was yes and to the second was absolutely nothing, so I might as well just suck it out and bear the “pain”. Well, it wasn’t easy from there and I still haven’t quite figured things out, but I do know one thing and that’s that at the end of the year I’ll be at a much better place than I am now and I will be a better business woman because of it.

Alright so why am I telling you this, what is my point? My point is this, if you have a dream or you’re trying to get a certain place in your life and the road gets tough don’t give up hope. No, you stick it out and work through that tough spot because remember it can’t rain forever. I believe in you and I know that you can achieve any and everything you set your mind too. It’s in you, Just BELIEVE!!!!

Time Management

At some point in life we all realize that there is not enough time in the day to do all that needs to be done.  In most cases it is not that there are not enough hours in a day but simply us over-loading our agendas and not knowing how to effectively manage our time. I mean it is almost impossible to commit every minute detail to memory so we need organizational measures that will help us keep up with what’s important.

One such measure that seems to be the new trend amongst college students is a calendar or an agenda. This particular method makes it very easy to keep up with important dates and upcoming events because you have the calendar dates right there to help you ensure that everything is done in a timely manner.  Over the years after trying different methods to help me to keep up with the various assignments I have for classes and different programs that I have for my practices, I have finally found one that works—changing pen color.  For instance, if something is written in black then I know that it’s a homework assignment, if it is written in brown I know that it is a special event that may not effect me directly and if it is written in green then I know that it is an event that denotes one of the various organizations that I am in.  Recently, I taught a friend of mine this method and they have reported that it is indeed effective.  A key to remember when using this method is that after the event or the task is complete then  you need to use a pencil to cross it out.

Another method that helps with time management in this ever-increasing age of technology is setting various alarms on your phone at least fifteen minutes before the scheduled event.  Now this isn’t exactly the best method to use because sometimes you may be in a place where you can’t hear the alarm or you may forget to set it.

A final method to help with time management is to buy either a wall calendar or a desk calendar and actually write your events out.  Most people that I have talked with actually prefer this method because they said that they have to pass by it everyday so they end up looking at it either that morning or the night before.  If you are a creative person then you can come up with some creative ways to decorate your calendar and can even implement the different pen color idea here as well.

So you see, there are a lot of tools you can use to help you effectively manage your time.  Last thing, I always find it a great help to have a schedule for both work and class that help me to keep up with what I am doing on a daily basis.  As any college student knows it’s time-consuming when you’re trying to make ends meet and getting an education at the time time…so that’s why I post my class schedule on the wall at the beginning of the semester as well as my work schedule for both of my jobs every week, so that I have a clear idea as to what’s going on.

Alright, now it’s your turn, try to incorporate some of these methods into your life this week and if you are already doing it then keep up the great work!  And remember in the words of Charles Bruxton, You will never “find” time for anything, you must “make” time!

Essence of Self

Alright so you’re in college and you’ve got all these people–young and old–telling you how you should be, the way you should dress, and even who you should become.  With all this pressure sometimes it gets hard to keep up with everyday living and you find yourself lost in the shuffle of trying to balance school along with keeping up with the latest fashions as well as making sure you’re a hit on the social scene. So, how do you maintain your focus? The answer, though simple, requires a lot of work and a lot of maintenance–to maintain your focus you must first know who you are and be comfortable wearing your own shoes.

Knowing who you are involves knowing not just your strengths but acknowledging your weaknesses as well. Someone once told me, if you can’t accept your flaws and imperfections then you’ll never be able to reach your full potential.  Once you’ve figured out your strengths and weaknesses then take some time and figure out how to maximize your strengths so that you get the best out of your life.  Afterwards, figure out your likes and dislikes—to do this, take personality tests that will help you assess which areas of life, careerwise, will best suit your personality and still enable you to maximize your potential.

Finally,  you should be set to go because now you have a sense of who you are so no one can come along and call you anything different than what you are! Always, keep your head up and stay encouraged…life is only as hard as you allow it to be! Remember, things are going to happen for which you have no control over, but if you just keep your head and continue to press your way then you shall be alright!

Passion for Living - PART II

Some of you may say, but how can you search for something that you don’t know about? But that’s the beauty of it you see…because since I don’t know what I’m looking for it makes me keep going in a quest to find it. And then some of you will say, how will you know when you find it or if you’ll ever find it? Again, that’s the beauty because it’s that thought or those questions that keep me going and spool me on in my quest to find it. PASSION, to find out what I am searching for and to claim it….

Perhaps, I’ll never know nor find what I am searching for. And perhaps my friend shall never know what she believes in, but for both of us, life is all the more interesting because of these things. They give us something to wake up in the morning for, they give us something to reflect on from time to time in a quest to discover just what these things are or why they are there. They are our PASSION…our reason for living. So, now I ask you—what is your passion? What is that one thing that makes you want to wake up every morning in an effort to find?  Think about it, reflect on it for a moment for you’ll be all the better once you discover it. For in discovering your passion you’ll open yourself up for more possibilities in life….

These are just my thoughts, you do not have to agree with them nor do you have to understand them. All I ask, is that you at least take them into consideration and perhaps open yourselves up to receiving the best of life.

Until next time….I remain,

Passion for Living - PART I

Have you ever sat down and thought about your reason for living? I mean what keeps you from breaking down and just giving up when things get rough? Perhaps it’s your family—knowing that you have them to turn to and support you when you have no one else. Perhaps, it’s because you’re like my dad, you’re afraid of being poor and so you push yourself everyday so that you can have your own. For me, it’s my family—I have to stay strong for them, can’t let nothing get me down so bad that I can’t be there for them. Lately, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking and I’ve come to the realization that it’s good to have motivation, but that shouldn’t be your reason for living. Motivations are there to help you to stand and to keep you from falling. But your reason for living—that’s your passion, what you hope to find in life. Tell me friends, what are you looking for in life? No, I don’t mean like love and things like that—no, I mean what is it that you need to make yourself complete. Yes, if you are Christian, you find you are complete in God, BUT that’s on the faith level. I’m talking about the personal level…

A few weeks ago, a couple of my friends and I were talking and we were, I guess you could say in a weird mood. It wasn’t a real conversation to be honest, we were just sitting there looking up quotes that we felt had some meaning and exchanging them. There was one and though I can’t remember who said it, it was rather thought provoking and led to a full conversation. It says, “I do not know why I go on. I do not search for truth. I do not believe in it. But I believe in something. Maybe simply in the beauty of the world which I wander or in the will to live itself. “ We looked at that quote and we were like, WOW, that’s deep! It incited a meaningful discussion between two of us in which we talked about our beliefs and what we believe in and then we started talking about the topic of this piece—our passion for living.  We both had to admit that we both lived for something, but we don’t know quite what it is. Perhaps that’s a good thing and perhaps that’s a bad thing—you decide. But, what I realized from that discussion is that I live or I continue to live because I am searching for something. I don’t quite know what I’m searching for because it’s one of those things you don’t really know what it is until you find it. Like my friend was saying that she believes in something, but she’s not sure what……
