Making the most of your campus visit

Campus Visit

Campus VisitCharleston Southern University is hosting a Saturday Visit for prospective students on April 20 (RSVP here). Visiting a college campus should be fun and informative. At CSU, you will have the opportunity to tour the campus, meet with enrollment counselors and professors, participate in a Q&A with current students and get the facts about tuition and financial aid. This is all great stuff, but we encourage you to dig deeper.

More than just a building

Charleston Southern University Athletic Center

We stood with Charleston Southern University Track & Field coach Tim Langford for a few minutes this morning, talking about the new Athletic Center (see pic above). Everyone gathered spoke, but our eyes were fixed on the building. We could seem to take our eyes off of it. I mean, we’d seen what it would look like in artist renderings and campus construction plans, but to see the physical brick-and-mortar building added a whole new level of excitement to the work.  [Read more...]

Video: CSU

I am posting this video, which is also on our YouTube Channel, because we’ve received a ton of compliments over the past couple weeks. The entire video was recorded on the Charleston Southern University campus and at select Lowcountry locations during Passion Week in April. It was produced by filmmaker Chris Wiegand. We had a blast shooting over two days on campus and around the city. Not to mention, Chris turned me on to this crazy good cinammon butter at Texas Roadhouse. I am forever indebted — not to mention — every time I see this video I start craving hot rolls and cinammon butter.

This is the video our recruiting team showed this at the Student Leadership University conference in Orlando, Florida and AtlantaFest in Georgia.

Charleston Southern University kicked off “Body Image Week” Monday with special guest speaker Rachel Oliver tonight at 5:00 p.m. in the Gold Room. Oliver shed 161 pounds on ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition last summer.

She inspired those in attendance to get healthy adding, “I am not done yet,” she told Good Morning America. “I am a work in progress. This is all about balance. That’s what I’m doing right now is finding that balance.”

At one point, Oliver weighed 399 pounds. She lost 30 pounds before the show and 161 more during her appearance on the show.

Charleston Southern’s “Body Image Week” continues all week. The schedule includes:

  • Tuesday: Free health screenings and “Boot Camp”
  • Wednesday: Zumba class
  • Thursday: Kinesiology Club Boot Camp

Follow Oliver is on Twitter at @EMWLE_Rachel.

Do you send text messages in class? This professor believes that texting while in a lecture hall is rude.  Therefore, instead of letting it spread and become a class-wide problem, well, see for yourself …
